Daniel Kaufman advises Perennial’s clients on a range of legal issues relevant to the entertainment, sports, and media industries, including copyright, trademark, and trade secret law, right of publicity and right of privacy law, defamation, and labor and employment law.
Mr. Kaufman has represented Perennial’s clients in high-profile negotiations against Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, and various other entities. He has advised celebrities, entertainers, and athletes on numerous issues, including music licensing, book publishing, labor and employment issues, defamation and right of publicity, and commercial and residential real estate transactions.
Prior to joining Perennial, Mr. Kaufman worked for Finnegan LLP and K&L Gates LLP, where his diverse practice included both litigation and transactional work, with a specific emphasis on copyright, trademark, and unfair competition issues related to the entertainment and media industries. While at Finnegan, Mr. Kaufman was an integral part of a team that successfully obtained a multi-million dollar settlement against a very well know social networking website.
A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Mr. Kaufman is actively involved in the local legal community, volunteering his time with the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts and the D.C. Bar Arts, Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Steering Committee. He recently organized and moderated a popular program sponsored by the DC Bar and the Washington Nationals, which featured a panel discussion by executives from Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and the World Umpires Association.
Mr. Kaufman is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association and the America Bar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries.
